Reflection 1

   INTRODUCTION.

Well, I'm going to start this blog talking about the introduction of this book "English Phonetics and Phonology" written by Peter Roach. This book is a complete course to learn about English pronunciation and important basis to understand better this language. We could find clear explanations and definitions used in Phonology, and complementary exercises in the book and on line. To learn English, is important to be aware in some aspects, like pronunciation and the accent. The BBC pronunciation is accepted as the official accent to speak English properly. There are many regions on Britain that have their own accent, but in England, in some places like Lancashire, Yorkshire and others are considered northern and that is the accent used in the BBC. The symbols used to represented the English phonemes were confusing for students, because there wasn't a standard model for all the books. Today, we have the IPA chart, that is used to represent not only English but also other languages' phonemes. A majority of people speak English around the world, so for that reason, is mandatory to learn some methods to speak this language in a correct way. If you want to learn more, there are some useful web sites to get more knowledge about this topic.
